The first ever spaghetti….

On saturday evening i made Spaghetti Bolognese for the first time….

Sure i’ve ate it before and never been a huge fanatic but this was my first attempt at making it.

I went for the first recipe that google gave me – with a few minor changes, one to suit a mushroom detesting wife…..

And it was good! It was very good………….

Pizza at the Hut……..

Usually you know what you are getting with Pizza Hut and lets face it, in Ballymena if you want Pizza there isn’t a plethora of choices!

Last night we went to our local store with some friends. The “hut” was not busy but i should have known our evening would be ‘interesting’ when the guy who would serve us strode confidently toward the table!

I don’t know what they call themselves in Pizza Hut, but “waiter” will have to do for the purposes of this story.

A ‘waiter’ does not pull up a chair beside the table and sit down whilst taking your order! The overly friendly and incredibly annoying nature of this guy was almost a fore-warning of how crap the service was about to be. The  body odour he left behind was hardly comforting either! Friendly and informative is expected but i don’t want a waiter sitting beside me, calling me mate and waffling on about anything that doesn’t appear on the menu.

Amazingly the starters arrived and were fine, not mind blowing but like i say, its Pizza Hut and you know what to expect.

Soon after, 2 Pizza’s arrived, one was wrong and was swiftly returned from thence it came but unfortunately for the staff i was seated in a position that offered a unique vantage point right into the kitchen. As our “waiter” led the inquisition into what happened our food and then plucked up the courage to actually come back to our table, I began counting to ten and hoped that everyone at the table would remain composed!

You see, i do not usually complain to staff in shops or restaurants. I often get angry enough to the point where i almost have heart failure, but i almost never speak!

“Waiter” started to explain about how the ‘kitchen’ was out of rocket and how the ‘kitchen’ made him look like an idiot and all he wanted was to give us an excellent dining experience and how 2 pizza’s had been correct and 2 were burnt and they were out of rocket and bla bla bla bla

“STOP!!! we don’t want the excuses, i want you to get to the solution and give us pizza” i said, whilst laughing to try and hide my rage at this clown! He was blaming everyone else , i hate that…..

My wife and I ordered something else and began watching our friends eat their pizza’s! sigh!

‘Waiter’ arrived eventually with our pizza’s, a bit sweatier than before and then he vanished! His disappearance seemed to mean that nobody else could serve our table for the rest of the evening. They may have been embarrassed by their co-worker’s monumental uselessness or maybe he had told them i was a sarcastic ass!

How were they to know we were going to order desserts & coffee even though im quite sure the coffee is like dog piss in Pizza Hut! By this stage there were 4 other people in the place so busy, it was not. Our table remained littered with the aftermath of 4 pizza’s and drinks for almost an hour while staff enthusiastically avoided us.

We waited, and waited and in order to prevent me from dying or suffering a stroke, my friend Michael went and asked for the bill!

He came back to the table, followed soon after by an embarrassed and apologetic “manager” who was “doing interviews” and was unaware of what had happened. She had taken 50% off our bill, which was fair enough.

‘Waiter’ was nowhere to be seen as we left, which was probably best for all concerned. I can overlook mistakes and mishaps because we are all human but blaming a co-worker to cover one’s own ass will tip me right over the edge……..

Good friends, reasonable pizza and a spineless arrogant ‘waiter’ – all for half price?  You can’t say fairer than that…
