Stop being a graphic designer

This has really got me thinking in the last few days.

What do I often find myself doing as a designer?

Logos, branding, flyers, websites… yes it is designing but I have come to discover more importantly, that it’s problem solving.

The old logo/brand doesn’t work, its not fit for purpose. You have no printed material, you need flyers, posters, business cards. You don’t have a website or you need a new one. There are loads of other questions to be asked about why, when, how and what you are willing to pay but, the key issue you have is that you can’t solve the problem(s). You need a problem solver.

If I’m just designing something nice looking for show then of course you can give orders and opinions but, if you want your problem solved then you need to trust me, trust my judgement and accept that I know how to solve the problem and you don’t.

And if this isn’t satisfactory, then you need to find someone else. A secretary perhaps?

I will be repeating this in 2021.
